Quiet Books and Crock Pots

Has anyone ever made a quiet book for little kids?  I haven’t but the concept intrigues me to no end.  A co-worker has asked that I work up two for her little twin girls, so off to Pinterest I went to find ideas.  And man, the ideas are sure there!  Most of the ones on Pinterest are made with felt pieces, but I’d much rather work with fabrics to keep them stronger longer.  Take a peek at some of the fun ideas:

Quiet Book Idea #1

I adore this idea….

Fun snowman….

Let’s cook!!!

There are too many ideas out there on the web to insert here, but it’s been fun investigating the different pages.

And as you all know, I don’t cook.  But this Tuesday we are having Mexican food day at work so off to Pinterest I go again trying to find something Mexican, easy, and made in a crock pot.  We’ll see if I’m actually the one to make this or if Bill steps in to kick it up a little bit.  :)

Easy……

There hasn’t been any creative things going on, but Pinterest had some fun ideas for sweater remakes into handbags, too. Plus some very fun crocheted purses that would be great for summer.

Cute, huh? African Flower Crochet

Have a blessed week, and we’ll see you next time around!  :)

ByeBye TAG

As life changes, obviously some of my goals change, too. My 10-year goal of getting the TygerLily name into the public’s eye is morphing yet again. As much as I adore making unique items to give away or sell, my focus has got to be my real job and doing my best there. Everything else that’s creative or crafty has just got to take a back seat – and it has to be kept fun. I’m not in a spot yet to make TygerLily what I had dreamed.

Hence my decision to leave The Artisan Group. What a wonderful group of artisans they are – professional, unique, and dedicated to their craft. My error in not getting my business cards to them in time for the Oscars only proved to me that I was pushing too hard, and too fast. Because of my error, someone else more deserving did not get to send their business cards to the Oscars. And that’s just not right. I have to admit that the year or two I was a member, it was a daily inspiration to look at their incredible designs over on Facebook and dream.

The point of TygerLily is to celebrate uniqueness, design, creativity – but mostly FUN! I was getting to where the fun part was getting ignored. As much as we had wanted to be successful with our name and product, we must step back and incorporate the FUN part back in again. No more pushing – at least not right now. So what you will be seeing here on the blog will be updates on what’s happening in the Creation Room to bring either a smile to your face or an idea into you own head! :)

Now THIS is using your noggin!

Let’s make this a fun adventure together. The good Lord knows what he’s doing here – and I’ll be patient and wait on Him.

Have a creative and FUN day, everyone!

Holiday Cheer

I wanted to do a little word play with you all this morning, but it just wasn’t coming together in my head correctly.  Do any of you have that issue ever?  :)  So I just decided to focus on the ‘cheer’ of the Christmas season and see what fun things we can find on the internet for you (that are free) to enjoy and hopefully inspire you.

How about some miniature Christmas hats?  These can be ornaments for your tree, or better yet a great top for a bottle of wine or cider for your holiday host and hostess.  So darned adorable!  (click pic for free pattern)

Miniature Hats / Christmas Ornaments (Knitting)

How about a mini sweater?  Make it in your school’s colors or child’s team number on the front.  Great way to remember sporting events every year.

Here’s some sewing ideas for wine cozies (totally free) that you can make:  FREE WINE BAG PATTERNS from SewingSupport.com

My personal fave is this burlap bag, as it reminds me of my husband who refuses to say the word ‘burlap‘ correctly because he knows it irritates me.  :)  This is a super pattern that uses inexpensive burlap, found at your local fabric store, and simple stencil embellishment.  It’s so simple, it’s crazy!  I think rice bags would be a super idea if you like to recycle and repurpose things.

Burlap Wine Bag (sewing)

I didn’t give myself enough time this morning to give  you more ideas, but take these and get a little creative in your gift giving and memory making.

Thinking I need to go to Trader Joe’s and get some 3-Buck Chuck and find some burlap!  What do you think?  :)  Have a safe and memory filled Christmas.

Decoupage With Fabric & Lace

I was trying to cheat a little this morning and see if there was a tutorial to share on how to decoupage blank journals or notebooks with fabrics.  But couldn’t find what I was looking for, which told me I need to do one and get it posted.  But I DID find something I hadn’t thought about before, and that’s using LACE to decoupage onto items!  SO pretty, so country chic, shabby chic, whatever you call it – but it’s gorgeous….  Take a look at this!

Decoupage Lace Planter

Head over to Urban Comfort and see for yourself the beautiful project that were created using snippets of different laces on many different household items.  Now I want to go try this, too.  :)

Have a wonderful post-Thanksgiving week and get a little creative and crafty – thanks for visiting!

iPad Cover – Free Sewing Tutorial

With so many designs available for iPad covers (which I saw on Black Friday) it only makes me want to keep the originality of a handmade cover even MORE available for those of you who love to sew.  So I searched this morning for a freebie that may get you inspired to make your own, or give as Christmas gifts.  This is a FREE toturial from Chica & Jo that I think you will truly enjoy!

Custom iPad Cover – Free Sewing Project

There are Amy Butler fabrics out there that would be absolutely SO FUN to sew this style of iPad cover.  Or maybe a little bling or jewelry accents.  This is a well written and photographed tutorial and just  know that you will not be disappointed.

Now off to do some of my own projects – what are you crafting up today?

The Grass Isn’t Always Greener

After wasting oodles of time and energy, along with some hard earned money, I’ve decided to let WordPress.com and WordPress.org do their magic on this website for me.  I love WordPress, but never could figure out how to get all the other stuff needed to get my store attached to my main gig here.  But with a little patience, and reading up on a few things, I’m just going to let the pros do it, and do it right.  *sigh*  What a long ordeal it’s been.  So don’t leave me!!!  We’ll get back on track here very soon.
So with the little crafts shows I’ve been doing, there has been some sales and I’ve met some wonderful people along the way.  Offers to be in a couple of shops here have come in, along with invitations to other shows.  After November is over, it will be time to sit back and re-evaluate exactly WHAT to do next.  I love what I do, but I also have to bring in a paycheck.  :)
So since I’m not leaving here EVER AGAIN (it will only get better with Worpress.org’s help) I wanted to show you what’s on the needles now.  Thinking the name should be “Waves of Grain” – still in the Prairie Series of wool handbags.

“Waves of Grain” still on the needles

The yarn is an alpaca/merino/silk/donegal blend of yarn that is becoming very quickly, my FAVORITE!  It’s lush and plush and the tweed effect is gorgeous.  So much so that I went and bought two more colors of the same yarn this week.  They are shipping in from out of the country, but what are you going to do when you REALLY enjoy working with a particular yarn?  :)

Azapa Blue Tweed

Azapa Purple Tweed

Aren’t they absolutely gorgeous????  I just realized as I sit here and look at the pictures, they represent the birthstones of our two daughters.  Weird I would pick these two colors.   Subliminal?  :)

Today I’ll be traveling over to our oldest daughter’s home which she is setting up for a Holiday Show for home business women – of which I’m one.  Let’s hope she sells a lot of her Thirty-One bags.  Click on the Thirty-One over there and it will take you to her website with all those fantastic items!  Yep, that’s my girl.  :)

Enjoy your weekend, and thank you for being OOOOBER patient with me in my search for greener pastures, or should I say websites.  :)

…..And Life Got Busy (and some free stuff)

It’s been so long since I’ve posted anything here – shame on me.  Life got a little ‘busy’ for awhile there, but we’re getting back on track.

Our daughter got married July 14th, and there was a little prep work to be done.  I truly wanted to sew her wedding dress, but it just wasn’t working for either of us, so we settled on just sewing her daughter’s dress.  What a wonderful little family they are going to make…….

Justin & Shawna
Raegan, Gavin, Dylan

It was a fabulous affair to say the least, and we are extremely happy for her and her children.

So TygerLily has been going through some revamping.  We’ve decided to try the arts and crafts fair gigs, just to see what might happen with that.  Our Etsy sales are really not where we’d like them to be, so we’re working on an actual website to show and sell the handmade items.  We are also going to incorporate classes in sewing, knitting and crochet.  Right here in our home.  The entire basement will be revamped into a ‘crafting’ area so people can come, relax, learn and hopefully laugh a little.

A wonderful friend is helping us with branding and working on artwork for a banner and other necessary printed items.  I reworked up our business cards this morning and got that sent off to be printed – along with a couple of pens for us!  YIPPEEE!  :)

The website is still under construction, so to speak, but it is live.  It will take a long time to get our handmade items switched over to this new venue as I have to have time to actually MAKE items somewhere in there.  HA!  But if you have a moment, stop over to http://www.thetygerlilyshop.com and see what’s happening.

And just for the fun of it, here’s a great free tutorial for fabric baskets I know you’ll enjoy!!  Have to try these myself….

And here’s another freebie I found you might enjoy working up….

……..this is a .pdf pattern and I don’t have a pic – but check it out anyway!

Thanks for checking in and have a great weekend!

Deco Classic Tote Bag

I haven’t written a whole lot lately only because I’ve been an embroidering fool!  It’s been so much fun, but had to stop myself this afternoon so I could get some items completed.  Tomorrow is an alteration day, and those always scare me just a little.  :)

Remember that classy 20′s lady that got embroidered last week?  The black work on cream?  Well, she’s all done up into a big tote bag for a special lady in our lives.  We will hopefully get to see her next week, so we really needed to get this project done and off the machine.

Black Tote Bag with Black Work Embroidered 20′s Classy Lady on front.

Just another shot – we both love this bag….

Inside of bag with lots of pockets and deco type swirl Alexander Henry fabric. Kinda wild, huh?

Hoping I did the handles up strong enough, but then again she probably won’t be carrying anything too heavy.  Or at least she shouldn’t be!  :)

Here’s some of the fun I had before I put the embroidery part of the machine away…

“Drink Up My Pretty” bar rag

“Mommy’s Sippy Cup” bar rag

“Wine” bar rag

Tiger Cub placed in corner of some fleece – needs crocheted edging to complete the baby blanket.

Sleepy giraffe on a star worked up on a corner of some yellow fleece. Just add crochet edging and you get a completed baby blanket!

Now you all know what I’ve been up to.  With four projects done, and two baby blankets to crochet around, it was a pretty good couple of days around here.

Hopefully you are all having a wonderful holiday weekend and getting a little crafty yourselves!  ENJOY!

Celtic Cross Embroidery

Last weekend, while my sis and I were trying out some embroidery designs, my sewing machine decided to lock up.  Projects had to stop which was a bummer, and that also meant a repair job on this new machine!  *sigh* But it all worked out well and had the machine back at home within a matter of hours.  Pretty cool!

So this is the celtic cross she picked out over on a website we browsed.  It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?  The first photo is the first of three we were planning on doing.  I am still learning the embroidery side of this baby, and picked a file that probably wasn’t the most appropriate to use with my Singer.  But here it is……

Celtic Cross #1 (not using .xxx or .pes formats)

It’s okay, but the two I did today using a better format (.xxx) look a lot better!

Two Celtic Crosses (in .xxx format)

Same thread, same design download, just a different format.  Aren’t they spectacular though?  These will get shipped out to her this week so she can finish her trio of book covers she has planned.

I have downloaded my three free designs already this weekend, and one of them is a beautiful lady from the 1920′s in black work.  I have the perfect idea for that one for someone’s birthday coming up.

Thanks for checking in and now YOU go get creative yourself and have some fun!

Fun Embroidered Tree Frog

My first try and mutli-color thread machine embroidery – yes, today!  I totally understand the machine and its prompts.  So watch out!  Once I get the correct type of stablizer figured out, it’s smooth sailing and will be SO much fun.  But here’s what went into the shop today……..

The inside of the portfolio – nope, there’s no frog there! Just fun fabrics and I adore this color combo.  (click on the pic for the Etsy shop)

Ah, ain’t he cute?

My sister turned me on to this website for machine embroidery.  Their designs are TO DIE FOR!  I only get three free ones per week, but I have 4 designs just sitting in my cart waiting for a paycheck so I can purchase them:  a magnolia, two types of roses, some flip flops and some tulips.  They’re fine just sitting there – that way I know where they are at.

Take a look over at their site:  Embroidery Designs – there is a TON over there and you could lost in space just looking at it all.  :)

Thank you, Donna, for putting this site in my email box.  You’ve helped me put my machine to the work it was designed to do.  YIPPEEEE!
